A Spooky Walk-Through Nosferatu’s Filming Location, The Haunted Orava Castle

The Haunted Orava Castle

Slovakia’s Orava castle is creepy and beautiful at the same time. It’s built high up on a rocky cliff right over the winding Orava River. It’s one of the most well-preserved medieval castles in country going all the way back to the 13th century.

It has a long history of violence and war; it served as a military barracks and was built after a Mongol invasion. Fast forward 7 centuries later and the castle still stands and is surrounded by myth and legend. Orava castle is also the location of the 1922 silent vampire film Nosferatu, giving it an even creepier history.
